The Beginning

The first Third Academy campus was opened in Calgary in September 1997. It was a humble beginning for the newest special needs private school in the city.

The student population was 26, grades two to six, with these students coming from all parts of the city and beyond. Five teachers had been hired to take care of their needs. Slowly, over the academic year, changes became apparent. By the end, parents and students left with hope for the future.

Today, there are Third Academy campuses in Calgary and Red Deer, all offering adapted/modified programming for grades 1 - 12. Third Academy Calgary has a student population of 165. May 2003 witnessed a milestone with the first graduating class in Calgary.   Third Academy Red Deer looks forward to following suit June 2007.  The student:teacher ratio has been capped at 12:1 at all campuses. The staff compliment has reached 80 across the system. Staff include teachers, instructional assistants, administrators, administrative assistants, transportation, janitorial, psychologists, speech & language pathologists, and occupational therapists.
